THE RACE

Nicolas:”165 km/h top speed. And…..3 falls in the rocks.”

When the helicopter with the camera flies 30 meters over your head for a few minutes, you know that you have an exceptional moment. It does not matter to see you in the video, the helicopter that follows you is just magic.

Not as magic as the helicopter was my three crashes. The first one was in the morning, difficult to see in the dust and against the light. No chance to see all the rocks on the tracks. The other two were at the end of the day in very complicated areas with lots of rocks.

As for navigation, there were two or three complicated sections, good for me, I lost just a little time compared to the other competitors. That brings me forward to the 21th place in general, 19th today. I can be satisfied on that side.

Not very satisfied with the first part but after the refueling I released the big attack and reassembled a dozen competitors, with a top speed of 165km/h (103mph).

Tonight appointment with the doctor to straighten the guy and be in the best possible conditions for tomorrow's stage.

Rally Guide 2019 - MOROCCO DESERT CHALLENGE

RallyGuide2019 - MOROCCO DESERT CHALLENGE

Variation is the key word today. The tracks are not so fast and more technical; a mix of everything Morocco has to offer - except for dunes. You’ll be crossing the Oued Draa a couple of times, with a few portions of trial: a perfect playground for the many SSV’s and buggies. You’ll be following beautiful oueds for many kilometres and cross a couple of chotts, flat white salt plains, where you can drive at top speed.

After that you’ll get about 50 kms of stony tracks and the typical “pistes Marocaines” with lots of up- and down steps but after the refuelling point you’ll quickly forget about this when a new landscape is revealed: beautiful valleys with table mountains and fast winding sandy tracks between them. Pure driving pleasure!
